Bath Botanical Gardens / Temple of Minerva

A garden wedding.
Right here in Bath.

A little time beneath the trees, then back to the people you’ve brought together. The Temple of Minerva and Botanical Gardens is a lovely setting for that sort of wedding.

I’m Michael Gane, a wedding photographer based in Beckington, near Bath. These photographs are from Habibi and Elaina’s day: a Guildhall ceremony, a wander through the city and a celebration in the gardens.

A different side of Bath

The city nearby.
The trees around you.

The Temple of Minerva is a Grade II listed pavilion in the Botanical Gardens, within Royal Victoria Park. You have Bath close by, with winding paths, mature trees and gardens to enjoy around you.

There’s a lawn beside the Temple for drinks, confetti and lawn games. For a meal and dancing, the Lower Lawn offers space for a marquee. It gives you a lovely starting point for a celebration that suits you.

As a photographer, I like having places to wander without making a great expedition of it. We can choose a quiet spot, make a few photographs together and get you back to everyone else.

A wedding I was pleased to photograph

Habibi & Elaina.
Everyone together.

Their family and friends had travelled from all over the world to join them. That’s something to make time for. People you might not see nearly enough, all in the same place for your wedding.

They married at Bath Guildhall, then we took a stroll through the city before heading to the Temple of Minerva and Botanical Gardens for their reception and evening entertainment.

Elaina looked absolutely beautiful. Her lace dress, the flowers and the greenery made some lovely photographs, but the important part was the two of them enjoying the day with their people.

Comfortable in front of the camera

A little wander.
Then back to the celebration.

You don’t need to know how to pose. Walking together, having a chat and taking a moment away from the crowd can help you settle in. I’ll give you a little guidance when you need it.

Of course we can take family and group photographs too. I suggest a short formal list, with room for fun, impromptu photographs with your friends as the day goes on.

That’s my approach to wedding photography: photographs of the people who matter to you, and time to enjoy being with them.

A few useful things to know

Planning your day.

Can we marry at the Temple of Minerva?

Yes. The venue offers civil ceremonies, with indoor and outdoor arrangements. Speak to the Bath Venues team about your guest numbers, the weather plan and what’s available for your date. Their Temple of Minerva wedding information is the place for current venue details.

Could we have a Guildhall ceremony and a garden reception?

That’s how Habibi and Elaina celebrated. It’s a lovely way to enjoy both sides of Bath. Arrange the two venues and any transport around your guests and timings, then we can talk about where a little time for photographs fits into the day.

Will we be away from our guests for ages?

I suggest a short wander for relaxed photographs together, choosing a few spots around the light and your plans. We’ll also make time for the family photographs that matter to you. You can read more about how I work in the wedding FAQs.
