Wellington Barn Photographer
CALSTONE, NEAR CALNE · WILTSHIRE
Those views.
That kind of day.
Wellington Barn is one of those places I’m very happy to recommend. Rolling hills, a beautiful barn and plenty of room to have a blinking good time.

A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME
Thirty years travelling.
Now, a little more local.
After more than thirty years photographing weddings across Europe and as far away as the USA, we decided we wanted to keep things closer to the part of the world we love. Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium: there have been some wonderful weddings along the way. These days, home in Somerset has rather a lot going for it.
That still leaves a few favourite venues over the county border. Wellington Barn, near Calne in Wiltshire, is one of them. It has that intimate, relaxed feel I like, with countryside that makes you stop and have another look.
To say the views are stunning is an understatement. Those rolling hills behind the barn are absolutely incredible.
THE MORNING, WITHOUT THE EXTRA JOURNEY
Get ready.
Stay right here.
The little preparation area is superb. The Prep Barn gives the wedding party a place to get ready on site, with full-length mirrors and space for those last-minute dress checks.
If you’re having your ceremony at the barn too, there’s no long journey between getting ready and getting married. You can settle in, enjoy the morning and keep everyone close by.

FROM THE CEREMONY TO THE FIRST DANCE
A beautiful place to marry.
Then, party away.
The barn is beautifully laid out. Look at the ceremony space in the photograph: the timber, the warm light and those candles. It feels cosy and full of atmosphere.
The Old Barn becomes the dance floor in the evening, so once you’ve had your first dance, you can guess what comes next. Party away.
And the guests who would rather sit, chat and put the world to rights still have somewhere comfortable to do it. The bar and separate dining space mean everyone can enjoy the evening in their own way.

A WANDER, NOT A PHOTO SHOOT
A few photographs.
Plenty of wedding.
There are lovely places for photographs without disappearing for ages. A relaxed walk together, a little time to enjoy being newly married, then back to the people who’ve come to celebrate with you.
When the fields and meadow are full of seasonal growth, the setting is something else. The colours change with the time of year; I’d much rather work with what’s there on your day than give you a list of poses to copy.
That’s my approach to documentary wedding photography: notice what’s happening, make a few beautiful portraits together, and leave you free to enjoy yourselves.

THE PEOPLE MAKE IT
Good speeches.
Gloriously silly moments.
The scenery is wonderful, but I’m watching the people as well. A laugh during the speeches. Friends getting a bit daft together. The photographs you couldn’t have planned if you’d tried.
You can see more of the day, including a rather important four-legged ring bearer, in Ella and Elliott’s Wellington Barn wedding story.

A FEW PRACTICAL QUESTIONS
Before the day.
Where is Wellington Barn?
Wellington Barn is on Manor Farm Estate in Calstone, near Calne, Wiltshire. I’m based in Beckington, Somerset, and photograph weddings across the surrounding area.
Can we get ready and have the ceremony at the venue?
The venue has an on-site Prep Barn and spaces licensed for civil ceremonies. Check the arrangements for your date directly with Wellington Barn.
Will we spend ages away from our guests for photographs?
That isn’t how I work. We can take a relaxed wander for a few photographs together, while the rest of the coverage follows the day as it happens.
