GRITTLETON · WILTSHIRE

You arrive.
And you look up.

Grittleton House is an absolutely staggering building. Even before the wedding begins, that drive towards the house tells you you’re somewhere rather special.

Wedding photography by Michael Gane, MGANE Studio. A magnificent setting, your favourite people, and photographs that bring you straight back to the day.

A HOUSE THAT MAKES YOU STOP

Through the entrance.
Into something special.

There are wedding venues you arrive at, and then there are places where you find yourself slowing down just to take it all in. Grittleton House is one of those. The long drive, the beauty of the building, then that first look inside.

You’re faced with the scale of it straight away. High ceilings, a magnificent staircase, and those upper corridors where you can look down into the spaces below. Every room seems to give you another reason to stop and look.

It should be in a top bridal magazine. But the lovely thing is, you get to fill it with your own people and have your wedding there.

A MEMORY THAT HAS STAYED WITH ME

Before the entrance.
The sound of strings.

I remember the string quartet playing before the couple arrived for the ceremony. The music filling that beautiful room, with everyone waiting. That’s a memory I still carry from photographing a wedding here.

You can show someone the rooms in photographs, but being there is something else. The sound, the anticipation, the feeling as the ceremony is about to begin. Those are the things I want the photographs to bring back for you.

Grittleton has a choice of ceremony spaces, including the Red Gallery, Yellow Gallery and Victorian Orangery. Which one suits you is a lovely decision to have. For me, the important part is watching what happens when your people are in it.

THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS TO KEEP

The staircase.
And a little time together.

There are so many places here to make beautiful photographs. That portrait of the bride and groom at the top of the stairs is a lovely example: the two of them, with the house around them. You don’t have to squeeze every room into the day to come away with something special.

I like to make a little time for you together, then let you get on with enjoying yourselves. A beautiful portrait matters. So does being there for the conversations, the laughter and everything you’ve brought everyone together for.

That’s my approach to documentary wedding photography. A few photographs together, and plenty of room for the day to happen.

OUT INTO THE GARDENS

Quite a house.
Quite a setting.

The grounds are absolutely magnificent too. There are so many possibilities for a relaxed wander with the two of you, with the house and gardens giving us plenty to work with.

The formal Italian Gardens are part of what makes the setting so distinctive. We’ll choose where to go around the light, the weather and what’s available on your day. There’s no need to turn your wedding into a tour of every photograph we could possibly take.

Grittleton House is one of my favourite venues of all time. The building is extraordinary, but it’s the thought of another wedding unfolding in those rooms that makes me want to return.

A FEW PRACTICAL QUESTIONS

Before your day.

Where is Grittleton House?

Grittleton House is in the village of Grittleton, Wiltshire, near Chippenham. I’m based in Beckington, Somerset, and photograph weddings across the surrounding area.

Are there options for photographs if it rains?

Yes. The staircase, high ceilings and beautiful interiors give us plenty to work with indoors. We’ll choose the spaces available around your plans and the light on the day.

Will we spend ages away from our guests?

I’d rather you enjoyed your wedding. We’ll make time for a few beautiful photographs together, while most of the coverage follows the day as it happens.
